Musalia Mudavadi: Kenya’s Fourth President?

Musalia Mudavadi is a member of parliament of Sabatia constituence in Western Kenya. He first elected MP, unopposed, in 1989 after his father the late Moses Mudavadi passed away.

In 2002, Mudavadi became the shortest serving Vice President in Kenya’s history after turning his back on the then KANU rebels who were out to punish president Moi for backing Uhuru Kenyatta rather than Raila Odinga. He was also the running mate of Uhuru Kenyatta during that Years election.

After being soundly defeated by Kibaki led team, Musalia choose to seat out after rejecting the nomination as a nominated Member of Parliament and only came back to Politics in 2005 after allaigning himself with the ‘NO’ camp led by LDP and Raila.

He ran for nomination to become ODM’S presidential candidate in 2007 Election but lost and was named Raila’s running mate.

Mudavadi fell out with ODM amd defected to UDF resigning both as the Minister of Local Government and Deputy Party Leader of ODM but chose to remain as the Deputy Prime Minister.

SCANDLES.

In 2010, Musalia was investigated in the Kshs 300 Million scandle in which the Nairobi City Council bought Land worth Shs. 24 million for Kshs. 300 million. KACC put him under investigation to establish if he had any links with the scandle but he protested, claiming KACC had not given him time to explain himself.

Documents allagging to connect Musalia Mudavadi exist as claimed by Paris based CERI to Goldenburg scandle which happened when Mudavadi was the Finance Minister back in 1993. The documents places Mr Mudavadi and former atton general Amos Wako as the God Fathers.

Then there is the Anglo Leasing scandle, which occured when Mr Mudavadi was the minister of Transport in which he wrote a letter to justify the purchase of a VSAT equipment and instructed then Minister of Finance Chris Obure to exempt Posta Corporation Kenya fro audit by the excheque which was a measure then employed to check on corruption.

Opinion Polls.

The most recent opinion polls show Mudavadi at 5% with his former pety boss Raila Odinga leading. Most people have be left asking themselves if this will be just like 2002 when he jumped out of a winning party and was left out.

Prezzo Deserve the BBA spot.

Romour mill has it that Prezzo, the king of bling bling is heading to the big brothers house in 3 days accompanied by Nini Wacera.

On Thursday morning Kenyans on Twitter were less ethustatic of the prospect of Prezzo being one half of the Kenyan team and flacuating between 2nd and 3rd place on the TT. it included:

-#ContestansBetterThanPrezzoForBBA Bonoko and @Mbusii

-ContestantsBetterThanPrezzoForBBA Justin Baba

-ContestantsBetterThanPrezzoForBBA the guy at muthurwa shouting ua mende, ua panya, ua kunguni

Over the last few years Prezzo disappeared from the limelight, he got married the seperated from his wife then I dont know what……. His music tap also ran dry and we have only been served with stories of him being in the studio or is upcoming single, but him going to BBA will be a God’s sent chance for him to reinvent himself. It will not only provide an opportunity for him to remain relevant but also gain back his fans and some new.

Another reason being that Prezzo is popular, he introduced swag to the Kenyan music industry all the more another reason to send him to represent this great country in the big brother house.

If this rumour turns out to be true his fans and the Kenyan public should infact support him. By supporting him we will have handed him a second chance that everybody needs.

The superhighway was divided into three sections which include:

-From Uhuru Highway raundabout to Muthaiga Roundabout. Constructed by China’s Wu-Yi with work still on going on museum hill raoundabout, University way and on the section connecting Globe roundabout to Tom Mboya street.

-Second section Muthaiga roundabout to Kenyatta University. The section worked on by Sino Hydro is almost complete.

-The Third section by Shenghi-Li awits completion of pedestrian bridges going into Thika.

The Africa Development Bank and the Kenyan government funded project experienced major delays because of the expensive relocation of utility lines, water and electricity and water ways from the highway.

By June, all paintings and road signs will have been putted up and ready for handing over but the Chinese firms will be expected to remain for the defect liability period which then the government can require them to return to the site in order to correct defects or omissions detected.

Malawi’s President Mutharika Dead; Was He Hero Or Villain, And What Did His Re-Election In 2009 Tell Us About Democracy In Africa?.

Trivial Kenyans on Twitter (#KOT).

Kenyans on Twitter popularly #KOT are a vibrant group of people who talk about anything or everything under the sky. In the past few year many subjects affecting the Kenyan situation have made it to the top of twitter’s trending topics otherwise Top Tweet (TT) world wide.

I must say, unlike the African Margreb where the social media was used to topple dictators, Kenyans on these social media especially twiter tend to be trivial. Making fun on even the most of serious matters.

For example this Saturday TT #DayStarUniversity which was a protest of a student being knocked down by a speeding motor car. Some Kenyan tweeps went ahead and made fun of this top tweet reducing such a weighty matter of loss of life into a trival matter.

Last year, #onlyinKenya and #Kenyaishometo trended for close to an hour. It was a rear opportunity for Kenyans to paint a good picture of themselves but Kenya’s image was dealt a blow after blow from the fun and negative picture painted. I am not saying that we should not mention all our problems on twitter or complain, but we should also promote our country as a tourist and business destination among others.

I here by call upon Kenyans, especially on twitter to balance between the funny comments about our country with helping promoting our great country image. We should have more of#someonetellcnn trending where we refuse to bullied and made to look bad international.

Direct Flights From America to Nairobi in the Next three months.

United States of America has announced plans to have direct flights between Nairobi and Atlanta in the next 180 days or so once the Jomo Kenyatta International Aiport is certified as Category 1 by The Internation Civil Aviation Organization and the Fedral Aviation Autority according to American Ambassador to Kenya Scot Gration.

Its close to four years now since a planned direct flight between the two countries was suspended just before the Delta Airways flight took off by the FAA citing security concerns at the JKIA. since then so called negotiation have dragged on and on with JKIA said not to handle the capacity of direct flights, but the government of Kenya hopes to achieve this status in August this year, when the expansion of the Airport is set to be completed.

This news comes just weeks after Kenya announcence oil find on the Northern part of the country. The move by American government to allow direct flights may have been informed by this discovery and with the current move to cut down on oil imports from Iran and some of its allies (if it has any). It could also be that now with oil discovery, America finally has a reason to have a direct flight to Nairobi.

I only hope that when all the talking is done Kenya Airways which is currently expanding and modernizing its fleet will be given the opportunity for direct flights.

#TurkanaOil: Did Moses Wetangula Make Kshs 840 Million?

Moses Wetangula is the minister who is said to have sold block 10BB to Africa Oil for Kshs 840 milion on which oil was later discovered by Tullow Oil an Anglo-Irish company.

The artical did not the name the minister, but hinted that the minister was involved in the reshuffle “In 2010, Turkana Drilling Company associated with a cabinet minister who affected in Monday’s reshuffle, sold Block 10BB for $10 million which is Kshs 840 miillion to Africa Oil”

The Daily Nation article went on to paint a picture of influence peddling and ugly backhand dealings among the well connected and cabinet minister in auctioning away our countries natural resources.

The curropt individual when applying for exploration license, ensure minimal obligation in the licenses and does not require them spending too much money. They then hold the license and sell it for mega profits.

But on Today’s Business Daily, Hon. Wetangula denied the accusation claiming that his former Law firm which still has his name, was the one involved. He claims not to share on its profits.

Given previous corrupt dealings, many Kenyans fear that those in power may use the newly found wealth for there on greedy ends, leaving Kenyans poor.

Changing face of Turkana.

Fortunes of Turkana keep changing by the day. The county onces classified as wastelands by both Government and the business community may see some huge projects come up in the next few years.

Having been neglected for the last 50 years which Kenya has been indipendent, Turkana now is bound to receive much attention from any all quarters due to the oil discovered in this semi-arid area of Kenya.

Turkana will also be home to the largest wind farm in Africa. The project which was due to start in the begining of this year will see it contribute close to 300 MW of electricity to the nation grid. Kengen is also conducting a feasibility study of georthermal power in the area with experts believing to have in huge quantities.

LAPSSET transport corridor comprising of a standard gauge railway will be passing through the county, a resort at the shores of lake Turkana, a pipline to transport the recently discovered oil together with the South Sudanes oil and Uganda’s oil, two lane highway to Juba and an airport. All the above will change the face of this county surely for the better.

#Turkana Oil A curse or Blessing.

President Kibaki yesterday annonced the discovery of oil on Ngamia 1 well after almost 70 years of painful and frustrating search. This was a huge succes since Tullow the Anglo-Irish company had only sunk one well but with there expertise in hitting the same large quantities in Ghana and Uganda was expected coupled with the leaked information by officials in Ministry of Energy in Uganda, that Kenya would be announcing oil find soon late last year.

Armed with a sample of what Tullow termed as light waxy crude Enery Minister Kiraitu Murungi claimed that the deposites was larger than those found in Uganda even without its commercialisation being assessed.

After the news reached a party was started in earnest by Kenyans on line. But as one blogger put, when has oil discovery been a blessing to an African country? Nigeria and Angoka will come to mind. Rebels have come in this countries engaging in blood wars and at worst the whole country degenerating in to a battle field as in the case of Siera Leone which entered aperiod of war after the countrydiscovered diamonds.

I am not a pessimist or a doom mongare, but all this can happen. It is my only wish that Kenya can set an example to other African countries and the world at large on how to utilize God given resources peacefully.

Ban Gor Mahia From The KPL Now.

Its not the first time, nor the second but every game and season that Gor Mahia is beaten, its fans must go on the rampage and cause trouble. Throwing stones and other items to the field and fans of the opposing team causing injuries and abandonment of the game. They have done it to Karuturi, Rangers and many other teams and now KPL and FKF should wait for another life to be lost but should now take decisive action.

Kenyans on social media, twitter, demanded that KPL together with FKF should ban Gor Mahia for not less than two years so as to serve as an example to teams that may want to engage in violence now and in the future but its better to keep in mind that it was the fans and not the team that engage in hooliganism, so these the fans should be ban for a life time.

Its my prayer that the football administration in the country will take decisive action to prevent loss of life, injuries and penalities that FIFA may impose on the country. Also shirt and media sponsors of Gor Mahia should take action, am not talking of pulling out but that will serve the same purpose as well. The government should also prosecute the hooligans and apply its own saction for the sake of football.

Finally talk by Gor officials thet KPL has not been unable to run the league is them trying to divert attention. They should rein in on there own supporters and if not let them step down and capable leaders be elected.
