Africa as a source of tech- innovation, it seems unlikely, but the M-Pesa money transfer tool was rolled out in Kenya five years ago, a long time ago in technology terms, but now it is making waves further afield. The system makes total sense in a country with a large rural, unbanked population, as it allows users to make money transfers via mobile phone, as well as make deposits, pay bills and shop online.
What happens when you put women at the center of examining Kenya’s booming technology scene? Specifically, what should Kenyan women’s agenda for the ongoing tech revolution look like?
I believe that Kenyan women’s technology agenda should focus on freedom. But not freedom in the conventional sense; the women’s agenda for technology should focus on both freedom ‘from’ and freedom ‘to’.
At least 40 people had been killed in Rift Valley, 21 in Eastern Kenya, seven in the coastal region, four in Western and two in central Kenya. So I was at KFC the other day - KFC as in (Iya) Kafaya's Fried Chin-chin - and this random idea came to me; I thought I'd list the most common lies Nigerians tell and put them in increasing order of seriousness. This is by no means an authoritative list. Feel free to re-arrange, interject, reshuffle.... just drop your comments and let me know what you think.
Sir Alex Ferguson has announced he will retire as Manchester United manager after 27 years at the club on a day that will redefine the landscape of British football.
The 71-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 1986 and re-built United's empire in spectacular fashion - winning an astonishing 49 trophies in all.
But, after infamously 'quitting' 12 years ago, he has decided to retire once and for all at the end of this season.
It seems we are in for another 5 years f extreme ethnic chauvinism by the President. Now Uhuru has unveiled his cabinet and 3/4 of them are from Kikuyu and Kalenjin tribes with Kikuyus dominating most of the positions. Many of the selfish individuals in the media, government and politics who engage in ass-licking so as to be rewarded by Uhuru have said that the individuals are competent and deserve the appointments.
Catholics for Choice... that's cute! Real, real cute! There was a poor man who came to hear of an enchanted island filled with treasures that would take a thousand years to value. This man told his best friend about the island but when his best friend heard about it, he profusely warned him against going there.
What do you think should be this man's first question to his best friend after such a strong warning?
Despite government’s frown at illicit coupling of same sex, and earnest prayers to see an end to the sudden surge of lesbianism in Nigeria’s movie industry, one of Nollywood’s own, Vivian Pius, said that lesbianism is a norm in Nollywood that is not going to stop soon.
“Lesbianism has come to stay in Nollywood. Though it exists in other industries such as banking, medicine and others, that of Nollywood is more open to the public because of who we are, as societal role models”.
